Bad News!!!

OK, so as soon as this blog started, the journey to NY is over. I have had bad groin pain over the past few days which has been potentially diagnosed as osteitis pubis, which is an inflammation of the pelvic bone. If this is the case, I will have to rest it for up to 9 months. I am awaiting X-Ray results but if they come back clear, I will have to have an MRI scan on the pelvis too.

I have therefore withdrawn from the ING New York City Marathon and also the Bupa Great North Run too. This is obviously a frustrating time for me but I have to accept that injury is part and parcel of road running and I hope to come back quicker and stronger in 2012.

UK Athletics Announces Squad for Daegu

Mo Farah winning the 10,000m in Eugene at the Prefontaine Classic

UK Athletics has today announced a squad of 67 for the IAAF Athletics World Championships in Daegu at the end of the month.
Team GB veteran 200m runner Christian Malcolm has been named as Team Captain for the championships.

I, personally, am very excited to see Mo Farah go in the 10,000m and hopefully the 5,000m too. Since moving to Portland, Oregon, to train under the tutelage of Alberto Salazar, this has clearly instilled a real belief in Mo and he now looks favourite to win gold in Daegu.

It's also great to see James Shane go in the 1500m. The Newham and Essex Beagles runner was very impressive at the UK Aviva National Championships where he ran the fastest time since Sebastian Coe and Steve Ovett won their national titles.

There's also Helen Clitheroe running in the 5000m. The 37-year-old achieved her 'A' standard at the Crystal Palace Diamond League meet last weekend and it will be excitingt to see her racing in Daegu.

Other highlights include the flamboyant Triple jump World Champion, Philips Idowu and the very talented and instantly likeable 400m hurdler Perri-Shakes Drayton. The world championships will be a great way to measure where the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team are with London 2012 less than a year away.

Perri Shakes-Drayton is most definitely one to watch

Welcome!

Hello! Welcome to my new running blog in my lead-up to the ING New York City Marathon on 6th November 2011. Join me in my ups and downs, injuries and training PB's, and everything in-between.

This blog will act as a training log, updated EVERY day. It will also feature running news with a massive event coming up in Daegu, South Korea, with the IAAF Athletics World Championships starting on the 27th August. There will also be discussions on running topics in general and hopefully this will prove to be useful to all readers whether you love running or never plan to run a metre in your life.

Since I started training for the Dublin Marathon last year, running has had such a positive effect on my life and has become a major passion of mine. I really hope that you'll find this blog useful and helpful in some way. Please join me on my journey to New York. Feel free to comment and suggest topics to write about, or if you want any advice or have any advice for me, whatever it is don't hesitate to contact me. I'd love your input and interaction, so whatever you have to say, I welcome it. Enjoy!
